Topping Off Ceremony Celebrates Progress of Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites and Johnny's Italian Steakhouse, Jordan Creek
Iowa's largest hospitality developer, Heart of America Restaurants & Inns, is celebrating the construction progress of The Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Jordan Creek at 60th and Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines. The hotel will include 137 rooms and suites, 5000 sq. feet of function space and the second Des Moines location of Johnny's Italian Steakhouse. The $17 million project will create 50 jobs and is slated to open in April 2008.
The hotel's rooms will be equipped with state-of-the-art amenities valued by corporate travelers and leisure guests alike. Each room has a panel supporting connectivity from multi-media devices (i-pod, laptop, dvd, etc.) to the 32" high definition TV. The hotel's ballroom will be able to seat 320 for a banquet and up to 500 people theater style. Heart of America's Johnny's Italian Steakhouse will be opening in the hotel, serving lunch, dinner, room service and catering banquet functions.
The project is owned and operated by Heart of America Restaurants & Inns, a Midwest Hospitality company founded by Mike Whalen in 1978. The company currently owns and operates 9 hotels and 16 restaurants in six Midwestern states.
Other Des Moines area operations include The Iowa Machine Shed Restaurant, Comfort Suites and Sleep Inn at Living History Farms as well as The Wildwood Lodge, the Radisson Hotel Des Moines Airport and Johnny's Italian Steakhouse.
Heart of America continues investment in Des Moines
Less than a month after celebrating the topping off of their new Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, Jordan Creek, officials of Heart of America Restaurants and Inns are officially breaking ground for a Fairfield Inn & Suites, 6880 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA. The hotel is expected to open in March 2008 with 82 rooms and 25 employees in the $6m development. This newest addition to the company's portfolio is franchised from Marriott International, Inc.
This Fairfield Inn & Suites is the newest prototype with upgraded interior design and technology amenities including flat panel TVs and connectivity panel in every room. An indoor swimming pool, fitness center and 15 suites will complete the property.
Heart of America Restaurants & Inns was founded in 1978 by Mike Whalen with the original Machine Shed Restaurant. The company has developed, owns and operates 26 restaurants and hotels in six Midwestern states. Des Moines area operations include the Radisson Hotel Des Moines Airport and Johnny's Italian Steakhouse next to the Fairfield site; the Comfort Suites, Sleep Inn and Machine Shed Restaurant at Living History Farms; and the Wildwood Lodge.
